Destiny is not necessarily Doom

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom contained within the I Ching Hexagram 57 – Wind.

“Wind develops out of Travel (56) and moves into Pleasing (58). As we travel through life experiences we must learn to adapt to change, the winds of change that continuously move through our lives, seemingly with a will of their own. However, we each are responsible for choices we make along the way, without being completely in control of where, when, and how each situation  in this material life began, or where, when, and how our experiences will move us into worlds of more expanded potential, the worlds of spirit.”

“It sounds like the voice of doom.”

“Not necessarily doom, but necessarily destiny.”

“How can it be destiny? It sounds more like a mystery.”

“Yes. The so-called mystery is that we each travel through lifewithout ever not being life itself..”

Spirit Teaches I Ching – Social Networking

Spirit shares His understanding of the timeless wisdom of I Ching, as expressed in Hexagram 13 – Social Networking. Social Networking develops out of Obstruction (12) and moves toward Great Possession (14). Heaven is over Fire; yang over  yang. Lines two and five are natural correspondents of each other and perfectly matched when yin is on second and yang is on fifth, as is the case in this instance. Yang is in it’s  leadership psition on Line Five, and yin is in a balanced and supportive poisition on Line Two.

Spirit explains: “Through differences of opinion and difficulties with communication, we learn, sooner or later, the value of open and respectful social networking. We learn how to express our own understanding and to listen with intent to understand the positions of others. This is a valuable skill; a great possession, for it helps to foster co-operation without rejecting either our own truth or that of others, should they differ.”

“It sounds very noble, and a way of peaceful co-existence. But, how does this awareness relate to me, specifically, if it does?”

“It’s good advice for each and every one of us, both generally and specifically.”

Double Pitfall is not facing problems

Spirit shares His understanding of the timeless wisdom of the  ancient I Ching style of thought to explain life, in which all situations are seen to develop out of and into other situations, in a more or less foreseeable pattern. Spirit seems to dismiss the trendy thought of living in the now. The now, He tells me, developed out of the past and will strongly impact on the future.

Today’s focus is on the life situation expressed in Hexagram 29 – Double Pitfall. Problems cannot be faced, dealt with, or overcome until they are recognized, identified, and studied.

Water is over Water; yin is over yin, and as water suggests danger, then Double Pitfall suggests great danger; but  possibly preventable danger, as a result of self-defeating thinking, avoidance, or lack of wisdom or courage to face and challenge difficulties before they develop into situations beyond our control.

How can this reading possibly relate to me?

It possibly relates to every one of us.

Humility Develops

Spirit teaches the timeless wisdom of I Ching. Today’s lesson is expressed  in Hexagram 15 – Humility.

“Humility follows Great Possessions (14) in the order of the Hexagrams. Earth over Mountain – or is it Mountain pushing up through Earth? Humility, in it’s most sincere form, blended with awe and gratitude, can develop out of great possessions, when she who possesses abundance becomes aware that anything and everything we may  possess at any given time is doomed, or destined (depending upon one’s perspective), and is only ours while it is ours. What is becomes what was, sooner or later. The good news is that pleasures and possessions can be enjoyed without clinging to them.”

“What does that mean for me?”

“Do you now have great possessions?

“My lifestyle is a simple one.”

“Great possessions do not necessarily refer to material wealth.”

“Then, I am blessed with at least one great possession, Your teaching.”

“Yes.”

Wisdom of I Ching – Ultimate Reality

Spirit shares His understanding of Hexagram 1 – The Creative.

“Heaven is over Heaven; the most powerful yang trigram over the most powerful yang trigram – Ultimate Reality, or, as it has been described, as above, so below. Nothing can create itself, alone; nothing can sustains itself, alone, and nothing can destroy itself, alone.”

“What about Life?”

“What about it?”

“Who or what creates, sustains, or destroys …?”

“Life is self-creating.”

“But, you said …”

“Life is not a who or what.”

“Then, what?”

“Ultimate reality.”

I Ching Wisdom – Respect the visions from the timeless past

Spirit shares His understand of Hexagram 52 – Mountain. Mountain above and Mountain below – a double yin of  equal formation.

“Mountain follows Thunder and will be followed by Gradual Progress. As the seasons of our life each follow the one that cameBefore it, so it is with each generation of Seekers of The Way. We cannot be, see, or do as any other previous generation. .The seasons, the years, and the generations each owe to the past their very existence, and yet, there is continuity without sameness.

We each see and understand as no-one else, if we dare to see
From where we alone are, while respecting the visions of the
Elders, mentors, and teachers from the timeless past.”

“Wow! And the message for me?”

“Yes.”

I Ching Wisdom – Life Moves in cycles.

Spirit shares His understanding of I Ching wisdom.
Today’s lesson relates to the life situation expressed in Hexagram 49 – Revolution.
Revolution follows The Well (48), and leads to The Cauldron (50). Lake is above Fire. Both are yang energies that, in this instance, harmonize together, with yang in the position of leader (5th line) and yin in a centered support role (2nd line).

Spirit explains: “Revolutions seek to change the structure of society through violence; to destroy what is, with intent to build something better.”

“Perhaps peaceful protests and elections didn’t seem to work? A dry well could express futility.”

“A cauldron is a heavy pot that is hung over fire to heat food or water. But, the fire must be attended to with care or the contents of the pot become unfit to eat.”

“And revolutions risk the same fate?”

“Yes.”

“If this reading contains a personal message for me and my struggles, then what alternative is available?”

“Resistance without rejection.”

“That could be unending.”

“Yes.:

“And, if that is unacceptable?”

“To whom?”

“To me, and perhaps many others.”

“Develop an alternative way and live it.”

“Are we going in circles?”

“No. Life moves in cycles.”

We play by rules we choose

Spirit shares His understanding of  I Ching wisdom, as expressed in the life situation presented by Hexagram 7 – The Army..

“Earth is over Water; both are yin trigrams, and yet Earth is the most powerful of the yin trigrams, and it’s on top. As today follows yesterday, so The Army follows Contention (6); and, as today reaches toward tomorrow, so does The Army reaches toward Closeness (8).”

“I can understand The Army and Contention acting on each other, but what relationship can The Army have with Closeness?”

“When reason alone fails to solve contention, then power is a ‘necessary organizing force. It serves a good purpose if it can bring together contentious groups. Then it contributes to a sense of Closeness.”

“Okay, I can accept that, but how does it relate to me?”

“Who is contentious?”

“Perhaps I am, at times.”

“Who is The Army?”

“I don’t know.”

“Is the army as a referee in this instance?”

“That’s possible, but not all referees play by the same rules.”

“What rules do I play by?”

“Perhaps rules of your own choosing.”

“Yes, and so do you.”

Awareness of Reality is Progress

Spirit reads I Ching 53 – Gradual Progress.

Gradual Progress develops from Mountain (52) and moves
Toward Marrying (54).

Spirit explains: Mountains can seem to be as barriers,
Challenges, or just part of the environment. They can be as
Beauty, in the eye of the beholder, and a pleasure to climb,
Or seen as an obstruction, to ignore, if possible.

How we see anything or anyone determines, or at east
Influences, to some extent, our relationship with or with them.

Awareness of this reality is progress along the way of
Enlightenment.

Where does Marrying fit into this picture?

We commit ourselves to Life, or we do not. It’s as
Simple as that.

If that is simple.

Yes.

Immaturity waits for Contention

Today’s I Ching reading, for me, by Spirit. And, don’t ask me
What I did to deserve it. I don’t know.

Spirit explains: I Ching 5 – Waiting, develops from Immaturity and leads to Contention. Waiting suggests
Expectation of a future.

A future what?

Is the future a what?

Can we pretend that I didn’t ask?

It’s too late for that option.

Why?

Life moves forward and expands. It neither stops nor
undoes what has been done.

Then what or whom are we waiting for?

We are waiting for immaturity to meet contention and,
In the process, mature.

My immaturity?

Yes.
