Moving Forward

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom
concealed within the I Ching Hexagram 35 – Advance.

Hexagram 35 is composed of two trigrams; Fire and Earth.
Fire is over Earth. Fire and Earth each possess yin energy.

Advance develops from Great Power (34) and contributes to
the emergence of Damage to Illumination (36).

We create greater power by exercising lesser power.

The power to do what?

Yes. Without purpose, even great power is vulnerable.

To what?

To inspire others with power and purpose to use their power
to reduce our own.

The message?

Hold on to the power of thought that you have as long as
it makes sense to you.

But, there are times when your ideas seem to make at least
as much sense to me as my own do. What then?

Let them work it out.

Diversity Beyond Unity is Powerless

A Spirit Teacher shares His understanding of
I Ching Hexagram 2 – The Receptive.

There is no Yang in The Receptive. It is Yin
All the way from bottom to top.

This contrasts with Hexagram 1 – The Creative,
Which is Yang all the way.

The Creative represents Heaven and
The Receptive represents Earth.

Each serves its own unique function, and yet,
each requires the other.

Power and flexibility working together?

Power and flexibility require each other.
Neither can achieve much without the other.

Then, cooperation is desirable?

Cooperation is a prerequisite to achieving
Anything worth achieving.

What Universal Law would express this idea?

It is more than an idea; it is reality.

Then, what Universal Law would express or
Explain this reality.

Realities do not require explanation They are.

Is this reality expressed with a Universal Law?

Yes.

Which Law?

The Law of One.

The Law of One?

Yes.

Please explain.

There is no unity within diversity.

But there is or can be diversity within unity?

Yes.

The Way of Arrogance

A Spirit Teacher shares his understanding of
the I Ching Hexagram 26 – Great Accumulation,
with me and whomever else cares to listen.

Great Accumulation follows No Error (25)
and moves toward Nourishment (27).
Mountain is over Heaven.

Nothing is higher than Heaven, and yet,
in this instance, Mountain claims to be.

Can this express challenge to authority?

Yes.

How could such a situation develop from
No Error?

The pendulum has swung to the opposite
extreme.

Mountain is out of line?

In the eyes of Heaven, yes.

And Heaven is forever.

Forever what?

Not what, but in terms of time.

There is no time.

Then, what is the meaning?

When?

Now.

Nothing comes from nothing.

Then, No Error and Great Accumulation
can be seen as opposite extremes?

Of what?

Arrogance?

Yes.

How does this situation lead toward
Nourishment?

Awareness is as nourishment.

Awareness of the Middle Way?

Yes.

There Are No Cycles To Our Life

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Today’s focus is on I Ching 1 – The Creative.
Heaven is over Heaven. Each alone represents
the sum total, and the source, of all power.
Together they can each be no more, or less.

The essence of all life expresses itself
in countless forms and non-forms. All energy
is creative, and energy is the essence of
all forms of life.

Aspects of creativity include origination,
development, perfection, and consummation.

Consummation refers to the creative act of
dissolving whatever has been created. A cycle
has been completed and now the energy or essence
of whatever was created will be used for some
other purpose. A new cycle begins. We move on.
We move on, but not necessarily forward.

What does that say to me, now that I have
left a stressful chapter in my life?
Where do I go from here?

You turn the page. A new chapter will begin.
It has begun.

But, it hasn’t been created, yet.

Perhaps not, but the outline has been. All
that you now are has been developed throughout
earlier chapters of your life. The next chapter
is not, nor can it be, completely separated from
earlier chapters. This would result in
discontinuity.

And that would suggest completion of a cycle
of life?

There are no cycles to our life, only to the
situations within it. Life, itself, is forever.

Going Nowhere is an Illusion

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Today’s message relates to Travel, hexagram 57.
Life experiences develop out of previous life
experiences and lead to future life experiences,
within an endless loop that expands.

We never return to an earlier experience,
even when we do, if we do. Something has
changed and so have we.

Our understanding of ourselves grows, as does
our understanding of the world we live in,
and everyone and everything within that world,
within our world.

The problem arises or, rather, problems arise
when we resist our own awareness of the changes
in our relationship to the changing world
we call our way of life.

We stumble when we fail to notice detour signs.
Things are never as they never were.

We see with an inner eye, while safe travel
requires looking ahead with an outer focus
of attention.

Illusion is created, self-created. It does not
exist in itself in any form.

Like the song, “A man sees what he wants to see
and disregards the rest?”

Yes, but the rest is still there, whether we
focus on it or not.

You’re getting close to home.

Yes. Perhaps our travels in the physical world
are or can be used as a diversion; an excuse
to avoid inner challenges to inward travel.

Wow! And the message?

Travel is a necessity of life, whether we go
anywhere, and we cannot go nowhere. That is
an illusion.

Even to imagine that we are or might be going
nowhere is an illusion?

Yes.

Indecision Never Wins

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

I Ching 31 – Sensing follows Fire in the sequential
order of situations and events that we each face
as we travel along our physical life journey.

As in cause and effect?

No.

Then what?

As in order or progression. The universe
does not operate on a system of cause
and effect, even if at times it might
appear to do so.

Then, why does Sensing follow Fire?

You might also ask why Sensing leads
to Withdrawal, or why that outcome
might be advisable.

Can we go back to Sensing?

We never left it, at least not those
of us who pay close attention
to whatever situation has developed
or shows signs of doing so.

Then, Sensing is as an instinctual
awareness?

Awareness is not instinctual, but does
or can develop from a natural response
to heat, among other things.

Could instinct be considered as
a prerequisite to sensing or awareness?

No.

Then, where does instinct fit in with sensing?

Instinct follows sensing.

So, when our physical senses send a warning
to our inner awareness, then awareness
triggers an instinctual response to withdraw?

Yes.

Then, fight or flight determine outcome?

No.

Then what?

We choose whether to withdraw or not to.

Then why does withdrawal follow sensing?

It is the usual recommended course of action
in extreme situations.

Then, whatever follows or leads into
any developing situation is contingent
upon …

Contingent upon what?

I’m not sure.

Yes.

What does that mean?

Indecision is also an option.

But, if instinct only offers two?

Then indecision would be over-ruled
by the most dominant instinct.

Or the less controlled one?

Yes.

Karma is Different than Cause and Effect

Spirit explains I Ching 51 – Thunder

Thunder above and Thunder below, or
As above, so below.

Thunder makes a loud noise. It does not
present itself graciously or even politely.
but on its own terms, and in its own way,
forcefully, so as not to be ignored.

Why does it have to let the world know
that it’s here, when it is here.

Perhaps it is as a messenger being sent
from a high authority, to announce
an immanent arrival.

A storm?

Yes.

That makes sense, weather wise.

It makes sense and is a reality
in any situation.

How is it possible to be warned
ahead of time in situations of
emotional, social, political, or
environmental disasters?

It is a law of life or, as some
prefer, a universal law.

What law?

Causation, or Karma.

Are they both the same law?

Yes and no.

How do they differ?

Cause and effect are sequential.

And Karma?

It might bide its time or …

Or what?

We can change the way we think
and choose to live, and this would
then change our karma.

For better or worse?

Yes.

The Road Ahead is Only in Your Mind

Spirit explains the I Ching hexagram 61 – Sincerity.

Sincerity follows Discipline in the sequential order
of events and situations experienced along the I Ching
Way to enlightenment.

When discipline and sincerity travel together within
the mind of the seeker of wisdom and truth, then
progress is certain.

What if they’re both going down the wrong road?

Then, progress is still assured.

Then, discipline and sincerity are not sufficient
to progress in the desired direction?

Yes, they are not.

What else is required?

Awareness.

Of what?

Not of what?

Where?

Yes.

Then, a map and a guide are required?

Yes.

My mind would resist.

Why?

A certain sense of personal responsibility for choices
of directions taken or forms of discipline accepted
and followed would require me to question myself and
any teacher, regardless of how much I might admire her
or him.

Yes, and that is as it should be.

Then, why do I regret not being able to completely
accept your way as my own.

My way should never be accepted as your way.

Why?

It would not be unique.

Must it be?

Yes.

Then, how can all ways merge into one and still
remain unique?

They merge into the one that is beyond uniqueness.

How can anything be beyond uniqueness?

We each are a unique aspect of Life and each are
contained within Life.

Then, what is the purpose of my struggle along
a unique way if I am already within what would be
the destination of my unique way?

A simple purpose; to develop awareness of what you are.

And then?

And then to expand your awareness.

To include what?

To include the awareness of all otherwise unique
aspects of Life.

Otherwise unique aspects?

Yes. They are only unique until you absorb their
awareness into your own.

Then your way becomes mine?

Yes.

It looks like a long road ahead.

Yes, but that’s just the bad news.

There’s good news?

Yes. The road ahead is only in your mind.

Male-Dominated Sacred Books

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Hexagram 1 – The Creative. Heaven is over Heaven.

Why isn’t it just called, Power over Power, or
Yang over Yang.

It is called what it is called for a reason.

But, it isn’t possible to be creative just because
it is the most powerful card.

A feminist attack?

No, a simple truth. A feminine, or yin contribution
is necessary to any creative process or project.

Why?

Desire and passion are necessary inspiration, and
they are yin characteristics, while, as you know,
yang is more structural.

Structural? When did thought become structural?

It always was.

There is no mention of that in the wisdom history.

It went without saying because men wrote the books.

Yes.

There is no here and now

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Hexagram 51 – Thunder. Thunder above, Thunder below.

Spirit explains: Thunder is a powerful energy, and doubly so
in this instance.

But, it doesn’t create itself.

Nothing ever does.

Couldn’t the situation create thunder?

What situation?

The situation created by lightning.

Lightning creates nothing.

Then, the situation caused by lightning.

Thunder is part of the situation caused by lightning.

But, not a direct effect.

Which comes first?

Thunder follows lightning.

What does lightning follow?

I don’t know.

Yes.

If there is a personal message …

And, there is.

Then, what can it be?

Everything and every situation is intimately
interconnected to a wider reality.

How can that help me here and now?

There is no here and now. That is the message.
