Immaturity Gets Bad Press

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom
expressed within the I Ching Hexagram 4- Immaturity.

Mountain is over Water. Both express Yang energy; Mountain
with firmness; Water with restless seeking.

Immaturity develops out of Difficulty (3) and develops into
Waiting (5).

A seed contains the essence of restless life, and protects
that essence by restricting its development until it is
mature enough to safely emerge from within its shell.
Parents and teachers also serve that purpose for children.

Immaturity in thought is expressed with feelings of
Uncertainty. To be uncertain as to how to proceed in any
particular situation expresses developing maturity. To be
aware that we don’t know absolutely requires intelligence,
for we can never know, absolutely. Uncertainty enjoys a
valued place in Universal Law.

Then, why do I seem to need to develop maturity?

Maturity of what?

I seem to need to understand my life, in particular, and
all life in general, and to know why it is as it seems to be.

How does it all seem to be?

Immature.

How immature?

How can I know?

Exactly.

What does that mean?

It means that immaturity is a necessary and never-ending
reality of life, and is a blessing to us all in that it
provides for and expects future development, and there will
always be future development.

Then, immaturity gets bad press?

Yes.

The Fire of Imagination

Spirit shares His understanding of I Ching Wisdom.

Hexagram 30 – Fire (Clinging) follows Double Pitfall (29)
and is in turn followed by Sensing (31).

Double Pitfall seems to suggest being stuck or trapped
between a rock and a hard place.

A need to choose between two unpleasant options?

Yes.

We could resist choosing either.

Postpone decision-making and hope for a third …?

Not hope.

Then, what?

Expanding our awareness of the situation.

Where does Fire fit in?

Into what?

Into taking time to consider possible alternatives
that are not obviously available?

The fire of imagination.

Envisioning what a third option would look like?

Yes.

What if there isn’t a third option?

There is always another way out of any problem.

That sounds absolute.

It is absolute.

Then, Sensing could suggest using one’s intuition?

For what purpose?

To guide our decision-making.

Yes.

Truth is Appropriate in Any and All Instances

Spirit explains I Ching 58 – Pleasing:

As the text expresses, pleasing is beneficial
if correct.

How can we ever know ahead of time how correct
our pleasing is?

Your purpose in trying to please is a clue.

I want everyone to be happy.

Why?

Why would I not want everyone to be happy?

Even if they have caused you to feel
unhappy?

Then, pleasing them, or attempting to,
would seem to reward them for their
unpleasing behaviour?

Exactly.

Then, please explain the purpose of
pleasing.

Pleasing should have no purpose.

Then, why do I seem to need to please.

Whom do you seem to need to please?

You, among others.

How have I, among others, rewarded
your attempts to please?

Negatively, it seems.

Why do you suppose that is, or seems
to be?

I don’t know.

Perhaps you know more than you pretend
to know.

What does that mean?

You and many others have been socially
conditioned to fear displeasing some
others, and so you have developed
a pattern of pretending to attempt
to please.

Why?

As a defensive strategy, to attempt
to reduce or escape confrontation.

Then, you approve?

No.

Why?

Confrontation is necessary and
an honest expression of one’s truth.

Truth is a powerful word.

Yes.

How is it appropriate in this instance?

Truth is appropriate in any instance.
Whether we choose to express it or not,
we should always be aware of it.

Is that possible?

Yes.

Male-Dominated Sacred Books

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Hexagram 1 – The Creative. Heaven is over Heaven.

Why isn’t it just called, Power over Power, or
Yang over Yang.

It is called what it is called for a reason.

But, it isn’t possible to be creative just because
it is the most powerful card.

A feminist attack?

No, a simple truth. A feminine, or yin contribution
is necessary to any creative process or project.

Why?

Desire and passion are necessary inspiration, and
they are yin characteristics, while, as you know,
yang is more structural.

Structural? When did thought become structural?

It always was.

There is no mention of that in the wisdom history.

It went without saying because men wrote the books.

Yes.

The greatest pleasure or the least pain?

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

16 – Pleasure

“Do what you love and love what you do” has been used
as an advertisement to enroll in classes that will lead
to a successful career earning an income working at
something that brings you pleasure.

It also expresses the thought that we will do best
what we choose to do for self-satisfaction and not
for its dollar value, alone, or for social status.

That sounds great, but ..

You do not agree?

I do agree.

And yet?

It isn’t always possible.

Why?

We must choose …

That’s what it’s all aobut.

What is all about choosing.

Life.

Life may be about choosing ..

Not may be. It is.

But, sometimes we choose, not for the most
pleasure, but for the least pain.

Is there a difference?

Perhaps not in the final choice, but ..

So, we sometimes sacrifice pleasure?

At least short-term.

For delayed or postponed satisfaction?

Yes.
Why? You’re testing me. Yes.

Tomorrow will come, whether or not …

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

51 – Thunder develops from The Cauldron – 50, as today develops
from yesterday, and Thunder co-creates 52 – Mountain, as today
must come before tomorrow.

Tomorrow will come, whether or not we prepare for it.
Yesterday helped us, more or less, to prepare for today’s
experiences, and how we live today will determine, to some
extent, how well we cope with whatever tomorrow brings us.

Life is a Master Teacher, and provides us with experiences
that offer incentives to master personal skills and coping
strategies.

How we cope with whatever challenges that tomorrow brings
will depend very much on how we live today.

Wow! I’m glad that message applies to people younger than
myself.

It applies to everyone, always.

Spirit’s I Ching 59 – Dispersal

Dispersal follows Pleasing.

Spirit explains:

We cannot always choose where to be born, where to live, or

Where to die. There are forces beyond our personal control

That influence our lives.

We can call these forces by many names; Fate, Destiny, Karma,

Chance, Chaos, the Hand of God, whatever, and we may not be

Pleased by the power they have over us.

Dispersal suggests a disorganized scattering, as seeds by

Wind. We may not have chosen to be where we are, now,

In our life’s journey, but we are responsible for how we live,

Wherever we are.

Is there any good news?

Yes. We choose how we live the life we have, here and now.

I Ching 14 – Great Possession

Today’s I Ching – 14 – Great Possession

Fire over Heaven.

Great Possession follows Association with Others.

Spirit explains:

We were not designed to be always alone.

We need community; to give to and to

Receive from, sharing and caring.

The greatest possible possession is to

Be as one with all, and yet be unique.

I Ching 20 – Observing

Today’s I Ching – 20 – Observing

Wind above. Earth below.

Observing follows Overseeing.

Spirit explains:

Observing is paying attention to what is happening –

Being aware. Overseeing is assuming a position of

Supervision, with or without paying close attention to

Whatever or whomever one has been entrusted to

Supervise.

The message?

Both observe and oversee suggest separation from

What or whom is observed or overseen.

Are you directing me?

No.

Then what?

I am sharing my way until it becomes our way, and

It will, for, in essence, it always was.
