Moving Forward

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom
concealed within the I Ching Hexagram 35 – Advance.

Hexagram 35 is composed of two trigrams; Fire and Earth.
Fire is over Earth. Fire and Earth each possess yin energy.

Advance develops from Great Power (34) and contributes to
the emergence of Damage to Illumination (36).

We create greater power by exercising lesser power.

The power to do what?

Yes. Without purpose, even great power is vulnerable.

To what?

To inspire others with power and purpose to use their power
to reduce our own.

The message?

Hold on to the power of thought that you have as long as
it makes sense to you.

But, there are times when your ideas seem to make at least
as much sense to me as my own do. What then?

Let them work it out.

We’re Never Without Intention

Spirit shares His understanding of timeless wisdom
expressed within the I Ching hexagram 21 – Biting Through.

Fire (yin) is over Thunder (yang) Only the top line of Fire
has a complement within Thunder; not a strong union.

Biting Through develops out of Observing (20) and, with
effort, contributes to the situation called Adornment (22).

Not all food, and not all problems, can be easily digested,
or otherwise dealt with. The more fiber food contains, and
the more dense the structure of problems, the more they
require sharp teeth or determination, for biting through and
reducing the food or problem into ever smaller segments.

Divide and conquer may be used as a military or political
strategy, but it is also a natural process.

Is this reading about nutrition or war?

It’s about Life.

Please explain.

Whatever we choose to do with our life, day by day,
we consciously or otherwise, intentionally or …

Without intention?

We’re never without intention.

How is that possible?

How is it not possible?

Waiting for an Answer

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom
contained within the I Ching Hexagram 5 – Waiting.

Water is over Heaven. Both express yang energies; Heaven as
ultimate power, and Water as flowing downward to reach its
own comfort zone; its own level.

What is Heaven?

Heaven is Life.

But, there are many forms of life.

Heaven is beyond form.

Is it potential form?

It is potential.

Then, it can become …

What?

Whatever it might have the power to become?

It has the power of potential itself.

What does that mean?

Are you waiting?

Yes.

For what?

For an answer.

Yes.

Ever-Present Dangers

Spirit shares His understanding of I Ching.

Hexagram 29 – Double Pitfall – presents with
two Water trigrams stacked, one on the other.
This symbolic representation of flooding
warns us of a hidden and unexpected danger;
a trap or ambush.

As in the deck being stacked against me
in a game of cards?

Something like that.

How could I ever know in advance?

It would be too late to know if you did not
know then.

How to develop the skill to avoid walking
into a trap?

It doesn’t require a specialized skill.

What does it require?

It requires right, or appropriate, thinking
and action.

That advice sounds like the eight-fold path.

It is the eight-fold path.

Including right or appropriate livelihood?

Yes.

To avoid associating with those who might
be tempted to take advantage of my simplicity?

Yes.

That might require me to become less simple.

Yes.

Rising is followed by Exhaustion

Spirit explains I Ching 46 – Rising

Rising follows Gathering in the order
of the hexagrams, and whatever is
gathered or gathers together rises,
at least in quantity.

What about quality?

What about it?

I like to think of rising as expressing
an upward momentum.

It does.

But, how could anything increasing in
negativity express an upward movement?

For example?

The rainy season has begun, or threatens to.

What is negative about a rainy season?

My beloved summer season is over.

It, too, rose until it reached
a predetermined limit to its rising.
Rising is and must be followed by
Exhaustion, as will be the rainy season.

Is there a personal message for me?

Yes. You have been impatient.

Yesterday Marries Today to Create Tomorrow

Spirit teaches I Ching – Yesterday Marries Today to Create Tomorrow

Spirit’ shares His understanding of Hexagram 54 – Marrying a Young Woman.

“Marrying a Young Woman follows Gradual Progress (53) and leads to Abundance (55). Thunder is over Lake; yin over yang. The fifth line of leadership is a yang line, and yet, in this instance it is occupied by yin. Line two is a complementary yin line of support of line five, and yet it is occupied by yang.”

“Perhaps, the reversal of traditional roles of  yin and yang as expressed in lines two and five may have been a premonition of a future shake-up of traditional roles?”

“Yes. The traditional reading of the Hexagram 54 – Marrying a Young Woman seems to place a woman in a position of servitude to an older man. In the context of social and cultural relationships, this attitude is changing.

In a deeper sense of yin and yang, from a spiritual and enlightenment perspective, yang dominance, in this instance, refers to a necessarily voluntary yin-type submission of the seeker to the mystical essence of timeless truths, and to personally chosen, dedicated teachers of those truths.

Through the marriage of present insights and levels of understanding with perennial wisdom, the future of enlightenment is co-created.

All that is, was, or will be can only be created from a blend of new and old; what is and what was, together become what will be.”

“Is there a personal message for me?”

“Yes.”

I Ching 14 – Great Possession

Today’s I Ching – 14 – Great Possession

Fire above, Heaven below.

Great Possession follows Association with others

In the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains:

In Association with Others, Fire reaches up

Toward Heaven, giving thanks for blessings

Received.

In Great Possession, Fire has assumed

A position above Heaven. This is

Inappropriate, and suggests

A lack of awareness that Heaven

(Spirit) can move through Fire

(my zodiac sign), or

Whatever, to restore a more

Appropriate relationship.

Where do great possessions

Come into the picture?

Material possessions are

Temporary illusions. The

Real treasure is a respectful

Relationship with Spirit.

I Ching 51 – Thunder

Spirit shares his understanding of I Ching 51 – Thunder

Thunder above, Thunder below.

Thunder follows Cauldron in the order of the Hexagrams.

The order of the Hexagrams expresses the Universal Law of Causality. Nothing comes from nothing. All situations develop from a previous situation. How they develop and what they develop into is not entirely predetermined. Free will and choice, as well as Destiny contribute to the outcome. How we choose can be the result of habit, or awareness and intent to develop our own way through life situations not necessarily of our own choosing.

The message?

Thunder is never silent.

I’m allowed to complain?

It seems to be in your nature to do so.

I Ching 6 – Contention

Today’s I Ching – 6 – Contention

Heaven above, Water below.

Contention follows Waiting in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit Explains:

For those with purpose, waiting is not an option.

When what we desire seems almost

Within our grasp, then we will

Confront and overcome, whatever

We must, and are able to,

To achieve our goal, and

With such intent, almost

All things are possible.

What is the message for you,

Chela, He asks me.

Fight the good fight

With all my might?

Yes.

I Ching 5 – Waiting

Today’s I Ching – 5 – Waiting

Water above, Heaven below

Waiting follows Immaturity in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains:

Immaturity is a necessary stage of growth

In all forms of life; including plants and people.

Farmers learn to recognize the stage of development of

Their plants and animals, and nourish them accordingly.

Teachers are as farmers in this respect.

I don’t ask what this reading says to me. He must think

That I am more mature than I feel.
