Tomorrow’s Illusion of Yesterday

Spirit shares His understanding of Hexagram 42 – Increase

“Wind is over Thunder; strong Yang over loud Yin. Increase necessarily follows Reduction in the order of the hexagrams. The order of the hexagrams expresses both continuity and change in situations, conditions, and individuals, and in their relationships with, and how they each respond to and influence each other..

Reduction implies that something is less than it once was.Increase speaks for itself. Low and high tides follow each other in a continuous pattern that expresses both change and continuity. As with tides, so with all relationships. There is both change and continuity. People come into our lives and then move out, or are moved out. We need to learn to let them go. The reality of tomorrow cannot come until we release the illusion of yesterday.”

“Why is yesterday an illusion while tomorrow is…?”

“A reality?”

“Tomorrow is not a reality in itself, only a potential one, in our mind, as a hope for another, and possibly better, today.”

“But, before that can happen, we must let today become yesterday.”

“Then, today becomes tomorrow’s illusion of yesterday?”

“Yes.”

The Army Enforces Law and Order

Today’s I Ching – 7 – The Army follows Contention (6) in the order of the hexagrams, and leads to Closeness (8). Earth is over Water; yin over yin. Only lines two and five complement each other, and even then with yin on a yang line and yang on a yin line.

Spirit explains: “Political contention can be expressed as protest demonstrations . When and if leaders abuse their positions of trust and ignore the will of their people, then protest results.”

“Or submission?”

“Submission doesn’t work.”

“And the army does?”

“Temporarily, yes.”

“Why temporarily?”

“The army enforces law and order, but has allegiance to both sides.”

“But, what is resolved?”

“The army isn’t designed to resolve anything.”

“Who, then?”

“Individuals.”

“Are we going in circles?”

“No.”

“What, then?”

“Cycles.”

I Ching 38 – Disharmony

Today’s I Ching – 38 – Disharmony

Fire above. Lake below.

Disharmony follows The Way of the Family

Spirit explains:

The way of the family serves a social  purpose

And then it changes as the purpose it once served

No longer serves one or some of the individuals

Within the particular family.

Disharmony is a necessary prerequisite to change, and

Change is continuous.

Does that mean that we must always be discontent?

We are, at some level.

I Ching 39 – Halting

Today’s I Ching – 39 – Halting

Water above, Mountain below.

Halting follows Disharmony.

Spirit explains:

Disharmony slows progress but halting, for us, is

Not an acceptable option. We see it as a trap, a lure,

An excuse to give up, and, giving up is not Our Way.

We will never give up.

We are moving onward and upward, from the

Foundations of the past toward an as yet unknown

Future. However, the future is not completely

Unknown.

A certain five-year-old child seems to know, or

Believe, that he will not be five forever. He seems

To understand that he will be six on his next

Birthday, and then, one year at a time he will grow

To be a man.

The Laws of Nature provide us with structure. Life

Experience teaches us understanding. We are

Each individuals developing from a more-or-less

Shared past and moving, growing into a more-or less

Shared future.

Destiny gently but firmly requires us to move from

The past and into the future. Free will pampers us

By accepting that we will each grow at our own

Pace and in our own way. But, grow we will.

Growth is not an option.

I Ching 60 – Discipline

Today’s I Ching – 60 – Discipline

Water above, Lake below.

Discipline follows Dispersal.

Spirit explains:

Water above a lake suggests flooding. The lake can only hold

as much as it can hold before dispersing the excess water.

Societies have learned from nature and build barriers to

Protect themselves from flooding.

Rules of Law serve the same purpose as flood control.

It’s called crowd control. However, for a society to survive

And thrive, individuals must learn to control their own

Desire for excess. We each need to learn how to limit

Ourselves.

How do we grow?
