Our Desired Outcome May Not Choose Us

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

First, He explains to me that the purpose
of using the 64 I Ching hexagrams
to share ancient wisdom is to enable
seekers to learn to accept that
nothing happens totally separated from
what has or what might yet happen.

Life and all situations we experience
are intricately connected together.
Before and following are relative terms
that have no separately existing
meaning but are always and must be
part of what is happening now.

The finger that points back to where
we have been is the same finger
that can point ahead to where we are
or may go, unless we choose to follow
another path, or another way of life.

Hexagram 46 – Rising represents today’s
I Ching situation. Rising follows
Gathering and leads, or can lead to
Exhaustion, unless we choose to travel
in a different direction.

We gather what we value, at any given
time and in any given situation.
Harvest is a season to gather crops
that have reached an ideal stage
of development.

We also gather certain people we know,
as friends, when our relationship
to them has developed to a certain stage.

How does Gathering lead to Rising?

The numbers or quantity of whatever
we gather rises as we gather.

Then, how can Rising lead to Exhaustion?

We can only rise as high as we can
without exhaustion.

Please explain.

We gather to ourselves whatever we seem
to need or, with some, as much as they
can above their personal needs, and are
not satisfied until the effort involved
in continuing to rise exhausts them.

Could seeking knowledge and understanding
have the same result?

Yes.

Then, quality of what we choose to gather
to us has no effect on outcome?

What outcome?

Our chosen outcome.

Do we choose outcome?

Don’t we choose outcome?

No.

Wow!

What does that mean?

It means, as I’m sure you know,
that I now understand that we
can choose our desired outcome
but it might not choose us.

Yes.

Understanding Inspires Us

A Spirit teacher shares His understanding of the timeless wisdom
expressed within the I Ching Hexagram 21 – Biting Through.

Fire is over Thunder. Fire represents a type of flexible yin energy.
Thunder is forceful yang.

Biting Through emerges from Observing (20) and prepares
the foundation for Adornment (22).

Wow! Each of those three situations or conditions seem
totally unrelated to either of the other two. How can there be
any sense of progression?

There isn’t.

Then, how are they each connected to the others?

When we observe whatever, we focus our attention and
that in itself is a necessary step in learning anything.
But, as important as it is, it is never enough. We must
then attempt to understand what it is that we observe,
and why it has attracted our attention. This requires
a mental form of biting through.

Where does adornment fit into this interpretation?

It is more than an interpretation. It is as it is.

Then please explain where or how adornment fits.

We adorn ourselves with what appeals to us and
the sense of satisfaction that comes from
understanding is appealing.

Unless we understand something that suggests danger.

Even then.

How?

Then our understanding of impending danger inspires us.

To respond to the danger?

Yes.

Spirit’s I Ching 21 – Biting Through

Today’s I Ching reading by Spirit – 21

Biting Through follows Observing.

Spirit explains:

Everyone interacts with the world they live in, the world that we

Seem to know we are part of. And, yet, many of us observe

This world as being outside of ourselves. This is an illusion

That we must learn to bite through.

The skin of an apple is often firm and yet, if we bite through

This protective layer we reach the tasty fruit that waits for us,

Just beneath the surface; our reward for the effort taken.

Why do I sometimes feel that I am more a part of the

Outer skin than of the inner reality?

Perhaps we all live on the surface of Life, with some of us

Being more aware than are others of how deep our roots

Reach down and dissolve into Life itself, to become nutrients

For our future.

It sounds deep.

It is deep, and we are part of it.

I Ching 14 – Great Possession

Today’s I Ching reading by Spirit

Water over Heaven (water refers to emotion, while heaven

suggests creative energy).

Great Possession follows Association with Others.

Spirit explains:

Community is an integral part of Life’s purpose.. The need or

Desire to associate connects us to others. This serves basic

Survival needs, as well as providing emotional satisfaction.

Association with others is a great possession or it isn’t,

Depending upon whom we choose to associate with.

How can we know with whom to associate?

For what purpose?

A sense of community.

What kind of community?

A community of like-minded souls.

In the same way we learn anything, through experience.

That could take a lot of time and pain.

Yes. Some learn quicker than do others.

Today’ I Ching Reading by Spirit – 5 – Waiting

Waiting follows Immaturity in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains:

Immaturity doesn’t last forever. We learn and grown,

Each in our own time and in our own way.

Waiting until we are more prepared to face

Whatever challenges Life presents us with,

Doesn’t work.

We must live each day as we now are.

The message?

We develop maturity with intention and practice,

Not by waiting.

I Ching 4 – Immaturity

Today’s I Ching – 4 – Immaturity

Mountain above. Water below.

Immaturity follows Difficulty in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains:

Everything is difficult until we learn how;

How to stand, how to walk, how to speak,, …

I interrupt. And how to think?

What to think, Spirit corrects me.

Immaturity is not necessarily

Forever, if the immature one

Has faith and guidance…

And trust?

Yes., but not misplaced trust.

How can I know…

Experience is required and

Life provides us with

All that we need.
