Diversity Beyond Unity is Powerless

A Spirit Teacher shares His understanding of
I Ching Hexagram 2 – The Receptive.

There is no Yang in The Receptive. It is Yin
All the way from bottom to top.

This contrasts with Hexagram 1 – The Creative,
Which is Yang all the way.

The Creative represents Heaven and
The Receptive represents Earth.

Each serves its own unique function, and yet,
each requires the other.

Power and flexibility working together?

Power and flexibility require each other.
Neither can achieve much without the other.

Then, cooperation is desirable?

Cooperation is a prerequisite to achieving
Anything worth achieving.

What Universal Law would express this idea?

It is more than an idea; it is reality.

Then, what Universal Law would express or
Explain this reality.

Realities do not require explanation They are.

Is this reality expressed with a Universal Law?

Yes.

Which Law?

The Law of One.

The Law of One?

Yes.

Please explain.

There is no unity within diversity.

But there is or can be diversity within unity?

Yes.

Resistance is Necessary to Life

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

Today’s situation on our journey through human
existence is designed to develop the attributes
of Hexagram 2 – The Receptive.

Earth is both above and below, and represents
Mother Nature, or for those who see Nature
as disconnected from themselves, the environment.

Nature is both flexible and firm. Though it
generally accepts directions from Universal Laws,
and both adapts and contributes to the needs
of other life forms, it also maintains its own
personal essence, and lives to express its own
purpose and desires, resisting any form of abuse.

It sounds like me.

It is you, and everyone else, both individually
and collectively.

But, Nature is surely much more than people.

As in kind, or power?

Both.

How?

We each are part of Nature and yet Nature is
much more than all of us together.

Yes.

What is the message?

What could Nature teach you about yourself?

To be flexible, yet firm, and to seek to express ..

Not to seek to express.

Then, to express my own purpose and desires,
and to resist abuse in any form.

Yes.

That’s fine and noble, except …

Except what?

It can be so wearying.

And easier to give in to abuse?

Yes.

What effect does that have on the abuser?

It seems to encourage more abuse.

Yes.

Then …

Yes. A certain low level but constant
resistance is necessarily a part of
the Game of Life.

Get used to it?

Yes.

The Receptive is never passive

Spirit shares His understanding of  the timeless wisdom of I Ching.

“Today’s focus is on Hexagram 2 – The Receptive. Earth is over Earth, yin over yin. Nothing can be created without expending energy. Receptivity to whatever expanding energy is always a necessary step in the creation of anything. That is the Law of the Yin and Yang within the limits of Tao. Our current culture seems to believe that receptivity is passive. It never is.”

“How can receptivity, being yin, be other than passive?”

“We choose what we accept or yield to, in thought or whatever. We each yield
in varying degrees to different aspects of ideas, actions, or emotions that the world
around us, if it could, would pressure us to accept. We each help to shape or determine outcome. Everyone is Yin and everyone is Yang in different situations. In any situation
we are both contributing and receiving information and influence.

We do not live in a vacuum of energy. We each, in some way, share responsibility
for the world we live in, by the way we each choose to live.

Is there a personal message for me?

Yes. Be aware of why you are choosing to live as you do.

Spirit’s I Ching 2 – The Receptive

Spirit explains:

Earth above Earth.

The Receptive follows The Creative (Heaven above Heaven)

The Receptive is Yin over Yin, the extreme of Yin, or traditional

Female, or emotional energy system. The Creative is Yang over

Yang, the extreme of Yang, or traditional masculine, or

Intellectual energy system.

Yang and Yin represent the major energy forces in Life. Neither

Are known for stability. They are each restless and eager to

Express their own qualities, sometimes in harmony with each

Other; sometimes not. But, like all else in Life, and in

Individual lives, they each are interconnected with the other.

Sooner or later, they must learn to co-exist, without denying

Their own unique essence.

The Creative and The Receptive each have unlimited potential,

Both positive and negative. Intellect and emotion both require

Self-awareness and self-discipline, and acceptance of the other,

In order to co-create anything, and nothing is created that is not

A co-creation of both energies.

So it is with individual people. We not only each contain both

Yin and Yang energies within us, but we each contain a unique

Blend of emotional and intellectual energies, seldom in equal

Quantities or qualities.

Self-awareness requires that we meditate on these inner energies

To learn to understand how they relate to each other, and how that

Relationship affects our ability to live a meaningful life.

How can accepting a dysfunctional relationship between

Our inner energies change anything?

We are that dysfunctional relationship and, if it is to be

Changed, only we can do it.

How?

Dialogue, to begin with.

How can talking about our problems solve anything?

Dialogue is not only talking. It also requires listening, and

Commitment to understanding the other.

Respect?

Yes.

I Ching 2 – The Receptive

Today’s I Ching – 2 – The Receptive

Earth over Earth

The Receptive follows The Creative.

Sjpirit explains:

Receptive expresses willingness to be directed, as students

By a teacher whom they accept as having something of value

To share with them.

The message – is it personal?

Yes and no.

We each have something of value to share with those who

Recognize the value of what we willingly share, the gift of

Learning. The teacher has no power to do this for us.

Not everyone seems willing or able to recognize value, and

We cannot receive learning if we are not receptive.

We must open our mind. Learning is not a passive action.

I Ching 3 – Difficulty

Today’s I Ching – 3 – Difficulty

Difficulty follows The Receptive.

Sjpirit explains:

The Receptive expresses a state of mind that is open to

Receiving wisdom, whatever its source.

But what to do with that wisdom?

In nature it would be shared, as nutients

In the soil are made available to

All plants having their roots in that soil.

The difficulty arises in how to distribute

Intellectual, emotional, and spiritual

Nutrients among people with different

Capacities  to absorb them, and different

Degrees of awareness of their value.

A personal message?

Yes.

I Ching 2 – The Receptive

Today’s I Ching – 2 – The Receptive

Earth above, Earth below.

The Receptive follows The Creative

Spirit explains:

The Creative represents the central power and

Energy of the Universe, a living and creating

Intelligence.

The Receptive serves this Power and is the

Medium through which The Creative

Expresses Itself.

I have a problem with the traditional

Interpretation of this concept.

It is much more than a concept. It describes

Reality.

Perhaps, but if it does…

And it does.

Then why does it do so in a form that

Alienates women.

Perhaps women alienate themselves.

That’s a male ego’s defence of inequality.

There is no equality. I thought you had learned that.

My understanding of inequality does not

Support women being considered less than men.

What does it support?

We each serve different roles.

What roles?

Not necessarily clearly defined roles.

What not necessarily clearly defined roles?

Supportive roles, each blending strengths

And weaknesses.

What strengths and what weaknesses?

I don’t know, exactly.

And I do.

I Ching – 3 – Difficulty

Today’s I Ching – 3 – Difficulty.

Water above, Thunder below.

Difficulty follows The Receptive in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains: What is difficult now may become easy with practice. Perseverance is required.

How did Difficulty develop from The Receptive? I’m almost afraid to hear His answer.

You were eager in the beginning, He reminds me.
