Awareness Inspires Us

Spirit shares His understanding of the timeless wisdom
expressed within the I Ching Hexagram 21 – Biting Through.

Fire is above and Thunder is below, suggesting a problematic
situation requiring intention to respond to whatever
challenge presents itself.

Biting Through develops out of Observing (20) and becomes
the foundation of Adornment (22).

Wow! Each of these three situations or conditions seems
totally unrelated to the other two. How can there be any
sense of progression?

There isn’t any.

Then, how are they connected to each other?

When we observe whatever, we focus our attention, and that
in itself is a necessary step in learning anything. But, as
important as it is, it is never enough. We must then attempt
to understand what it is that we observe, and why it has
attracted our attention. This requires a mental form of
biting through.

Where does Adornment fit into this interpretation?

It’s more than an interpretation. It’s as it is.

Then, please explain where or how Adornment fits.

We adorn ourselves with what appeals to us and the sense
of satisfaction that comes from this awareness is
appealing.

Unless we’re aware of something that suggests danger.

Even then.

How?

Then our awareness of impending danger inspires us.

To respond to the danger?

Yes.

Awareness of Opportunities and How we Respond

Spirit shares I Ching Wisdom.

Hexagram 28 – Great Surpassing follows
Nourishment.

That makes sense.

What makes sense?

When and if we are well nourished,
the better we are able to develop
our physical potentials.

What about our intellectual,
emotional, and spiritual potentials?

Those, too. If parents have the means
to care for their children
as most surely would if they could,
then each new generation would have
the opportunity to develop beyond
where they might otherwise have gone.

How far back does it go?

What does that mean?

We can only do for our children
and our community what we are
able to do, now.

But …

Yes?

What if we are unaware of what
we can do for others, or might have
done for ourselves?

Then what?

Yes.

We each are responsible for how
we live our lives and the choices
we make, here and now.

Yesterday has gone?

Yes, and tomorrow is not yet here.

So, where does great surpassing
fit in?

Great surpassing can refer to
the quality of our attitude
in awareness of what was,
what may yet be, and what
opportunities are available
to us, now, and how we
respond to them.

The Moment Lasts Forever

Spirit shares His understandin of I Ching wisdom.  Hexagram 20 – Observing., expresses the life situaton of today’s lesson. Wind is over Earth; yang over yin. The 2nd and 5th lines are both centered and balanced, with yin on 2nd and yang on 5th, the leadership position.

“To observe is to witness, and there is no such possibility
as being a non-participating witness. Whatever we witness, we are a part of. We absorb the reality of whatever situation we are witness to. We open to it or we close up to it. We back away from or move forward, if only in our mind. We respond, or we react.”

“What if …”

“There are no what ifs that could excuse you from
accepting responsibility.”

“How could I be responsible if I’m just a witness?”

“You are responsible for your response.”

“Even if I don’t recognize the significance of
what I witness until later?”

“We live in the moment.”

“The message?”

“The moment lasts forever.”

When Intervention is Unavoidable

Spirit Teaches I Ching  – Hexagram 30 – Clinging

Spirit explains: “Clinging is composed of Fire over Fire and follows Double Danger (29) and leads to Sensing (31). This situation has been described as being between a rock and a hard place. Fire does not easily let go of whomever or whatever it is clinging to. The best protection from it is prevention.”

“The second best?”

“Avoidance.”

“How is it possible to avoid a danger that threatens those whom you love?”

“Yes, it is not.”

“Then what?”

“Then we each must choose how to respond.”

“Some form of intervention?”

“Yes. It is both necessary and unavoidable.”
