Significant Spiritual Others

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of
timeless wisdom contained within I Ching 37 –
Significant Spiritual Others.

This hexagram develops from Reduced Light (36)
and prepares the foundation for Disharmony (38).

The yin (emotional) trigram Wind is over Fire;
also yin. Together they express intense emotional
energies interacting with each other.

The light of understanding is reduced when our focus
is too narrow, too shallow, too broad, or too deep
for underdeveloped intellectual awareness to absorb
in a meaningful way.

Significant spiritual others refer to family; not
necessarily related by birth but by sharing our way
of life and a desire to serve Life by learning and
living a deeper knowing.

A deeper knowing of what?

A deeper knowing of each other’s truth and acceptance
of the reality that different so-called truths are
not necessarily mutually exclusive.

We each see from a unique perspective, and if we can
learn to accept and respect this reality, we will
discover a greater truth that each is part of.

Is there a personal message for me in this reading?

Yes, try not to care so much about what others think,
and allow yourself to be simply you.

Life Never Promises Easy

A Spirit teacher shares His understanding
of timeless wisdom planted deep within
the I Ching hexagram 3 – Difficulty.

Water is over Thunder.
Both trigrams express yang energies.

Difficulty follows The Receptive (3)
the most powerful yin hexagram.

The receptive expresses a state of mind
that is open to wisdom, whatever its source.

But, what to do with that wisdom?

In nature it would be shared, as nutrients
in the soil are made available to all
plants having their roots in that soil.

The difficulty arises in how to distribute
intellectual, emotional, and spiritual
nutrients among people possessing different
capacities to absorb, and different degrees
of awareness and appreciation of their value.

A personal message?

Yes.

We Need Help to Overcome

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

I Ching 13 – Association With Others follows
Obstruction and leads to Great Possession.

Obstruction suggests that something is blocking
our way.

Or someone?

It is never someone unless that someone is
our self, and it usually is.

We need help in overcoming whatever seems to
prevent us from following our spiritual path.

What if the community we now associate with
is itself the means of obstructing
our spiritual development.

Isolation is not the answer.

Isn’t meditation a form of isolation?

No.

How is it not?

Meditation is time out to reflect on
the situation and seek higher guidance
to develop awareness.

Develop awareness of what?

Of how to best contribute to our own
spiritual development without
unnecessarily obstructing the
development of others.

Looking at it from that perspective …

That is the only perspective.

Then, we could be obstructing those
who seem to be …

Yes.

Then how to overcome obstruction in a way
that leads to community?

Meditation.

And then?

Follow your heart.

And mind?

No, not in this instance.

Why?

Mind will overwhelm you with reasons
to stay.

To stay where?

Not where, what.

Then what?

Obstructed.

But, if obstruction is the problem …

Obstruction is a challenge. It doesn’t
exist in a material or physical form.
Not everyone would see the same
situation as an obstruction. We need
to change the way we see.

How?

By looking within for the answers
to life’s challenges.

What about community?

For that, too.

Awareness of Opportunities and How we Respond

Spirit shares I Ching Wisdom.

Hexagram 28 – Great Surpassing follows
Nourishment.

That makes sense.

What makes sense?

When and if we are well nourished,
the better we are able to develop
our physical potentials.

What about our intellectual,
emotional, and spiritual potentials?

Those, too. If parents have the means
to care for their children
as most surely would if they could,
then each new generation would have
the opportunity to develop beyond
where they might otherwise have gone.

How far back does it go?

What does that mean?

We can only do for our children
and our community what we are
able to do, now.

But …

Yes?

What if we are unaware of what
we can do for others, or might have
done for ourselves?

Then what?

Yes.

We each are responsible for how
we live our lives and the choices
we make, here and now.

Yesterday has gone?

Yes, and tomorrow is not yet here.

So, where does great surpassing
fit in?

Great surpassing can refer to
the quality of our attitude
in awareness of what was,
what may yet be, and what
opportunities are available
to us, now, and how we
respond to them.

Minor characters in a Universal story

A Spirit Teacher explains I Ching 28 – Great Surpassing.

Surpassing follows Nourishment for the simple reason that nourishment is necessary to sustain physical life, whereas Spirit is Self-sustaining.

Nourishment includes physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual necessities of well-being. This provides us with a foundation to develop beyond mere survival.

We each have a destiny that will greatly surpass anything we can imagine. The good news is that we have eternity to complete our mission. Physical lifetimes come and go, but we go on forever.

In the meantime?

We are each only a minor actor in a universal play, but, even so, we each have a role that only we can perform, once we learn what it is.

Then, to do all that we can is enough, for now. Others will come, or they will not. In any event the play goes on. It’s as simple as that.

Stress as Exercise

Spirit shares His understanding of Hexagram 53 – Gradual Progress,.

“Gradual Progress follows Mountain (52) in the continuous progression of the hexagrams, and leads to Marrying a Young Woman (54). Wind is over Mountain; yang is over yin, and lines  two and five are in perfect harmony with each other. Yang is on the fifth line of leadership and yin is on the second line, in a centered and balanced support position.

An easy path to follow is no challenge to our physical, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual potential capacities for growth. Physical muscles require exercise in order to expand. Emotional and/or mental stress is a similar process to exercise, and can contribute to emotional, intellectual, and spiritual expansion. Of course, as with physical exercise, too much stress defeats its purpose. A mountain can express an end-of-the-line kind of obstruction, or no more than a challenge to our progress.”

“Is there a personal message for me?”

“Yes. Stop complaining, and keep moving forward and upward. Gradual progress is still progress.”

Community is a Valuable Resource

Spirit shares His understanding of Hexagram 14 – Great Possession

“Great Possession follows Association (13)  in the order of the hexagrams, and in the order of our lived experiences, and leads to Humility (5). Fire is over Heaven; yang over yang. The only yin line in this hexagram is on the fifth line of leadership; in a very weak position among five yang.

Community is a valuable resource if the people we choose to associate with express values similar to our own. Even within such a community, there is always a danger when anyone possesses something of great value There are always some others who would, if they could, and they sometimes do, when opportunities seem to allow, pretend friendship with those with great possessions, with  intent to exploit that association for their own benefit, alone.”

“What great possessions are we talking about?”

“We?”

“Then, what great possessions are you talking about?”.

“Great possessions are potential or realized resources and may include one, some, or all of material, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual energies.”

“If this is a personal reading…”

“And it is.”

“Then, what great possession do I have that could or would attract false friends?”

“Yes.+

“I don’t seem to have anything that most everyone else doesn’t have.”

“You have a relationship with me.”

“How could that be taken from me?”

“You could, perhaps, be persuaded that I don’t exist.”

“Is that possible?”

“What?”

“That I could be persuaded that you don’t exist?”

“Yes.”

Spirit’s I Ching – 24 – Return

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom

contained within the I Ching hexagram 24 – Return.

Earth is above and Thunder is below.

How is that possible?

Thunder can refer to earth-shattering noise; heard or not.

Emotions or thoughts?

Yes.

Does return suggest going back to an earlier way of life?

We can never return. The clutter we have created is from

an earlier lifestyle. Now, we must let go and move forward.

Stripping away is removing that which in unnecessary

and no longer serves us well.

.Excesses in our life usually develop gradually and are

best removed in that same manner, but with intent to

improve the quality of our life, not merely to reduce quantity.

Stripping away can be seen as intent to return to a state of

Balance that has lost sense of its goal.

The message?

It may be time to listen to our personal sense of comfort and

need. We each have physical, intellectual, emotional, and

spiritual needs that harmonize with each other, or they do not.

Harmony of our unique blend of energies is life-promoting.

disharmony is unhealthy.

Spirit explains I Ching 42 – Gradual Progress

Gradual Progress follows Mountain

Spirit explains:

Why do people climb mountains? Because they’re there.

Anything that blocks our way can be considered as a challenge

Or as inspiration to discover whatever might be beyond

A seemingly suggested limit.

Something is often blocking our way; our way to wherever, or

Whatever we might be if we refused to be stopped by

Challenges to our progress; physical, intellectual, emotional,

Or spiritual.

We each have a calling; a voice within us, within every cell of

Our being, that calls us to move or not to move, and when.

We have been socially conditioned to listen to outer voices.

Perhaps the time has come to listen to our own, inner one.

Could you be my inner voice?

Yes.

Are you?

No.
